Forging at the Smithy

Saturday 22 June (whole day)

  • 60 British pounds
  • Rotherham

Service Description

We are very fortunate to have linked up with Andrew Kirkham, a blacksmith with over 20 years experience making and supplying historically accurate tools, long bows, iron work and bushcraft items, to be able to offer the fantastic opportunity to try your hand at forging. This is an ‘away-day’ to a working forge. Due to the nature of the environment numbers are strictly limited to 4 people per day but if there is sufficient interest we can arrange additional dates, so early booking is advised. A variety of items can be made. Help and guidance will be given so everyone will take at least one item home. There is a list of ideas below and you should indicate your choice when booking, but there will be some flexibility on the day if you have a different idea. Each person will have about 1.5 hrs forging time. This will be a full day. Please bring lunch/snacks, but light refreshments will be provided. Please wear old, practical clothing and solid footwear. Layers are advisable to accommodate a hot forge and cooler area for downtime. Toilet facilities will be clean but basic, with hand sanitiser provided. Available items (see ringed items in the photos) - Bottle opener, hook tool for fires, S hook, fire poker, small wood splitting tool, toasting fork, fire steel, camp fire tripod, crow bar. This list is not exhaustive and any other preference may be made available through discussion with Andy on the day. In this case select 'Other' and add your idea. Cost £60 plus a contribution towards travel cost.
